FHR Apprentices' Contribution to the Metro Tunnel Project

FHR had the opportunity to provide over 20 electrical apprentices to light up the Metro Tunnel project for future generations. As a result, two of our 4th year apprentices were invited to meet the Minister for Training and Skills, the Hon. Gayle Tierney, at the AEN conference. Along with the FHR team, Chelsea Porter and Alyssa Preer had the opportunity to share their stories of becoming an apprentice.

The Uncertain Future Of Aussie Apprentices

Recent announcements by the government to better support apprentices, while admirable, have missed the mark with many larger apprentice providers who still face uncertainty. While the Federal Government's JobKeeper wage subsidy has been a lifeline for a largely dormant workforce, these payments appear to be the only certainty many of them have. This is particularly true in the Victorian market where lockdown and industry restrictions have been further hampering recovery.
